Governor Manchin Proclaims August World Breastfeeding Month in WV Studies show breastfeeding produces healthier babies and more companies are allowing new moms to breastfeed in the workplace. Several businesses in West Virginia were recognized by Governor Joe Manchin on August 3, 2009 for worksite lactation support. Governor Manchin also proclaimed August as World Breastfeeding Month in West Virginia.
The following businesses attended the ceremony and were recognized: Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington; Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins; Family Care/Women Care in Charleston; Family Care in Teays Valley; Kanawha Valley WIC program in Charleston; Mylan Pharmaceuticals in Morgantown; Poca Valley Bank Sissonville Branch; Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley; River Valley Child Develpment Services in Huntington; St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington; Valley Health Systems, Inc. in Huntington; WVDHHR State Office of Nutrition Services in Charleston; West Virginia Hospital Association in Charleston; and West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown. The awards ranged from bronze to platinum level, with platinum level indicating the highest level of support.
